2021 Cat’N Around Catskill – Cat #13

“Meowtain” by Sara Pruiksma

Sponsored by: Jennifer L. Saver, DVM,
Catnip & Carrots Veterinary Hospital

Description: “Meowtain” is inspired by the beautiful Catskill Mountains, and the flora and fauna that live within it. She will be embellished with many three-dimensional elements, rich in color and full of lively, painterly brushstrokes.

About the Artist: Largely influenced by her rural upbringing in upstate New York, Sara Pruiksma continues to be inspired by her immediate surroundings. Pruiksma lives along the Hudson River, in a late 1800’s Italianate style fixer-upper, with her husband, son, and beloved pets. As a gardener and wildlife enthusiast, her time spent outdoors undeniably influences her work through the study of color, form and movement.

Pruiksma is a mixed media artist, primarily working with water-based media, most often gouache or acrylics. She received her MFA from the State University of New York and graduated with her BFA from Alfred University School of Art and Design, after receiving her Associates degree from Columbia-Greene Community College.

Currently Pruiksma works as a Design Assistant at May + Watkins Design, and as the Curatorial Assistant at the Albany International Airport. Her work at May + Watkins Design allows her to assist in the creation of large-scale public art commissions, interpretative exhibits and fantastical play structures across the United States. In her curatorial position in the Art & Culture Program, she implements a wide array of projects, including gallery exhibitions and site-specific installations throughout the terminal. www.sarapruiksma.com
