Description: This cat was inspired by a Cairo Bear I created called “Flowers Along the Fence.” This bear had a shirt that looked like a house and hollyhocks climbing up the legs of the bear. I even put a cat in the window on this bear as an homage to Cat’N Around Catskill. I just couldn’t resist recreating a similar design on a Catskill Cat. This year I used more design elements created with epoxy clay, including a backyard tree with a rope swing, birds in a nest, and a squirrel in the branches. Many lazy kittens lounge about in the grassy sunshine on the larger cat form.
About the Artist: Christie moved to the Hudson Valley in late 2014 to enjoy the tranquility of the area and the beauty of the mountains when her husband Kevin retired from the army. She studied graphic design and fine arts at Columbia-Greene Community College in Hudson. Christie was the Artist’s Coordinator of the Cairo Bears outdoor community art project for the Cairo Development Foundation from 2018 to 2020. Christie has been an artist for Cat’n Around Catskill since 2016.
